LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – Dec. 22, 2020 – Epson, the number-one selling projector brand worldwide,1 today announced the Golden Bridge Awards named Epson a Gold winner in the 12th Annual 2020 Golden Bridge Business and Innovation Awards®. Light Harvest’s artwork at the Lightning in a Bottle 2019 festival won in the "Live Event of the Year – Cultural and Festival Event" category. Tasked with creating an intimate art experience for festival attendees, artists Adrian Rasmussen and Ryan Uzilevsky used 3D projection mapping to deliver a sense of amazement, wonder and peace. Leveraging two Epson PowerLite® L615U laser projectors, the duo combined projection mapping with intricate wooden sculptures to illuminate fine art pieces.
"It is always an honor to work with such creative minds that use projection and digital media as an artistic medium to tell impactful and complex stories. This project pushed the limits of projection – blurring the boundaries of digital and physical in an immersive and captivating manner – and we are excited to have it recognized as a Golden Bridge Awards winner," said Remi Del Mar, senior product manager, Epson America, Inc. "By immersing individuals and relaying multifaceted messages through the art of projection, Rasmussen and Uzilevsky used the Epson laser projectors to bring their artwork to life – articulating emotional elements that are important to community and humanity, in an intimate, one-of-a-kind art experience."
Inspired to create experiences that touch on complex themes, such as mind-body dualism, lucid dreaming, spirituality, and romance, the subject of the artists’ work at Lightning in a Bottle was personal transformation and reverence for the divine feminine. Drawing from the festival’s six core principles – celebrating life, creating a community, respecting yourself and one another, actively participating, honoring the land, and being a citizen – Rasmussen and Uzilevsky leveraged Epson’s powerful laser projection technology to create immersive art pieces that provided more personal, one-on-one interactions in an altar-like room.
Rasmussen and Uzilevsky took large-scale projection mapping techniques and scaled them down to create a more personal experience. They worked with Epson to determine the projection technology needed to illuminate the art without compromising any color or detail, even in a small and intimate environment. With the close-up perspective of the artwork, the duo focused on fostering the art and maintaining the quality of the visual and needed projection technology that could maintain that impactful imagery.
"Our goal was to create a captivating experience in an intimate space, which the Epson projectors allowed us to do," said Uzilevsky, artist and CEO and creative director, Light Harvest Studio. "For this project, we were able to showcase our art in the way we intended, without any hiccups or distractions from the projection technology. It is an honor to have our work at Lightning in a Bottle recognized in this way."
Judges from a broad spectrum of industry voices from around the world participated in the review process and their average scores determined the 2020 Golden Bridge Awards winners. Winners will be celebrated and presented their awards during a virtual awards ceremony in December.
