Connecting a trail of diagnostic treasure

This Easter, we wanted to bring the Barco Healthcare network together, to recognize and commend the work of our partners, and discover the hidden ‘treasure’ behind our diagnostic displays.

First stop – Cairo, Egypt. The Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt (CCHE) is the first and only specialized children’s cancer hospital in the Middle East and Africa, and the largest in the world. When CCHE decided to upgrade its PACS solution, the Coronis Fusion series was the perfect match. Barco’s displays help radiologists and clinicians at CCHE to see subtle details quicker, allowing for more accurate diagnosis.

Next on our journey is the Abu Dhabi Health Services company (SEHA) – an organization that has owned and operated the public hospitals and clinics in Abu Dhabi, UAE since 2007. Dr Essam El Shamma of Corniche says radiologists at SEHA are reaping the benefits of an upgrade to Barco’s Coronis Uniti and Fusion display series. “By viewing PACS and images on a workstation, our radiologists can work more efficiently. Also, the well thought-through design provides them with the best reading experience and viewing comfort.”

Across the shores to Georgie, US, we visit the Hamilton Health Care System – a comprehensive, non-profit healthcare system providing seamless resource coordination to meet healthcare needs that advance the quality and dignity of life. The Director of Imaging at Hamilton Health Care System, Stan Casteel, comments on the flexibility of the Coronis Uniti display. “The simplicity and universality of Uniti, of having the quality to read everything you need from mammo to an extremity x-ray, improves our radiologists’ productivity.”

Next stop – Ohio, US. ProMedica Breast Care is a premier breast imaging facility devoted exclusively to patients with breast health concerns, offering the latest technology and diagnostic services for complete, accurate, and prompt diagnosis and treatment. ProMedica takes its responsibility to this goal very seriously - “With the Coronis Uniti, we can catch more ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) lesions, indicating the earliest form of potential breast cancer. The sooner we can begin treatment, the better our opportunity for a successful outcome,” Dr Robin Shermis, Medical Director of ProMedica Breast Care explains.

And so comes the long journey to Chiba, Japan. For 50 years, the Chiba Medical Center has been one of Japan’s most renowned healthcare institutions. Dr. Takuya Ueda is among Chiba’s most respected radiologists and was experienced with Barco’s Coronis Fusion 6MP LED display prior to joining the hospital. This diagnostic color display offers flexible, multimodality imaging, and can be used as two seamless 3MP heads or as one wide-screen 6MP display, thus improving productivity. It’s no wonder the doctor decided to install the display at his new workplace as well!

Back over to Louisiana, US, the Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge is the regional mammography leader, committed to providing women with the most advanced tools and education in detecting breast cancer. Performing more than 45,000 mammograms annually, the hospital is transforming breast cancer screening and detection by combining its double-reading mammogram review process with the Barco Coronis Uniti display system. Radiologist and Breast Imaging Specialist at Women’s Hospital, James Ruiz, shared his thoughts. “The Coronis Uniti is so much bigger and brighter than other monitors. I take advantage of the additional real estate when conducting multi-planar reconstruction studies."

And so we travel back to Europe, just in time to catch up with Dr Pierre-Alain Goumot at his private practice in Paris, France. Dr Goumot is a radiologist who has specialized in breast imaging for many years. His private practice in Paris has built up a reputation for the quality of services provided. Recently, Dr Goumot acquired a top-of-the range display monitor, Coronis Uniti from Barco. “It is the combination of the high spatial resolution and screen brightness that we appreciate most, together with the ergonomic and ease of use,” Dr Goumot comments.
